Drug Plan Costs for People with Extra Help

Those below Federal poverty level save over 95% on average

People with lowest income and resources

  • Pay no premiums or deductibles
  • Have small or no copayments

Those with slightly higher income and resources

  • Have a reduced deductible
  • Pay a little more out of pocket

You may qualify for Medicare Extra Help, which is also referred to as the Low Income Subsidy (LIS) to pay prescription drug costs if you are enrolled in Medicare Part D. You may automatically qualify for Medicare Extra Help if you meet one of the following conditions:

  • You have Medicare and Medicaid
  • You have Medicare and Supplemental Security Income (SSI)

If you do not automatically qualify, then you must meet certain income and resource limits and apply for Extra Help. This program can help pay for Medicare drug coverage, such as plan premiums, deductibles, and drug copays or coinsurance.
